Silent Hill: Townfall Trophy Guide

The platinum is more forgiving than the trophy list makes it look, provided you know two things before you start: which 17 trophies can be missed permanently, and where the two manual saves go that turn four endings into reloads. Both are on this page. Everything else is a matter of not walking past collectibles.

Platinum at a glance

PS5 / PS4: 37 trophies — 1 Platinum, 5 Gold, 9 Silver, 22 Bronze · no online trophies · Estimated difficulty: 4/10 · Time to platinum: 15–25 hours · Minimum playthroughs: 2 full runs plus partial reloads · Missables: 17 · Glitched trophies: none reported · Difficulty affects trophies: No — everything is achievable on Story Mode with Hinted puzzles.

PS5 and Steam Counts Differ — Here Is Why

If you are comparing sources and the numbers do not line up, this is the reason:

PlatformTotalWhat is included
PlayStation 5371 Platinum, 5 Gold, 9 Silver, 22 Bronze
Steam36The same list with no Platinum — Steam has no platinum-tier achievement, so the 5 Gold / 9 Silver / 22 Bronze entries carry across.

So "37 trophies" and "36 achievements" describe the same completion list. Nothing is missing on either platform; one just has a platinum at the top.

There is no PS4 version, no cross-buy, and no autopop or save transfer between platforms. This is a PS5 and PC release only.

The Platinum Roadmap

The route below is built around minimising repeated labour rather than following the trophy list in order. It assumes you are willing to use the two save points described on the endings page.

Step 1 — First playthrough: Abandoned ending, all collectibles, optionally no manual saves ~8 hours

Collect everything you can and kill everything you meet. Finishing with more kills than Discoveries gives you the Abandoned ending, and this is the run where all the one-time collection trophies get cleared.

If you want the Reject The Help trophy (complete a playthrough without manually saving after the first required save), fold it into this run rather than planning a separate one. The game autosaves frequently as you complete objectives, so the only exposure is while you are exploring freestyle. On Story Mode, healing items are plentiful enough that dying is unlikely.

Step 2 — Second playthrough: Justice ending, speedrun, and both NG+ endings set up ~3 hours

Start New Game Plus. Reverse your approach: kill as few enemies as possible, and re-collect every Clue and Document — the other categories do not matter this run. Simultaneously complete the Dog ending steps (three coins) and the Sci-fi ending steps (three books plus the Strange Access Card).

Aim to finish this run under 4 hours for the speedrun trophy. This is very achievable: a run collecting all documents takes around 3 hours. Turn on the timer display via Game Options > Show Time Played, and skip cutscenes — the timer keeps running during them and in every menu except the pause screen.

Take your manual save at Chapter 15, at the red crank. Finishing with Discoveries well ahead of kills gives you Justice.

Step 3 — Reload for Sci-fi, Dog and Forever ~2 hours

  • Reload the Chapter 15 save and use the Strange Access Card on the keypad to get Sci-fi — this skips the final boss, so do it before the branch that fights him.
  • Reload again, feed the Gold Coin to the Guide Dog, beat the boss: Dog.
  • For Forever, reload your Part 4 save and finish with only a narrow Discoveries lead over kills. If you overshoot into Abandoned, reload and collect a couple more documents while avoiding kills during the final boss.

Step 4 — Optional third run for speedrun and no-saves ~2 hours

Only needed if you did not fold those two conditions into the runs above. A third playthrough doing only progression puzzles and killing anything in your way can be completed in under 2 hours, well inside the 4-hour speedrun requirement — and it is a natural place to pick up both the speedrun and no-manual-save trophies together.

The 17 Missable Trophies

Warning — there is no chapter select and no free roam

This is the root cause of every missable on the list. You cannot return to a previous area except by reloading a save or starting a new playthrough. Most items are missable purely because of that.

The missables fall into recognisable groups. Knowing which group a trophy belongs to tells you whether you need to act now or whether a later run will do.

GroupWhy it can be missedMitigation
Collection trophiesEach collectible category has a completion trophy, and items in closed areas cannot be retrieved. Most collectible progress is tracked between playthroughs, so a miss is usually recoverable on the next run — except Strange Postcards, which do not respawn in NG+.
No-manual-save trophyCalling 100 at any phone after the first required save breaks it silently.Decide before you start whether this run is the one. If yes, never open the save menu.
Zoe's no-heal trophyUsing any healing item while playing as Zoe fails it, with no notification.Avoid fights entirely during Zoe's chapter rather than healing through them.
Ending trophiesEach ending has its own trophy, and the ending is decided at the very end of a run.Use the two manual saves. All five endings are reachable in two runs this way.
New Game Plus trophiesThree trophies require completing NG+, plus the two joke endings that only exist there.Unavoidable — plan for two runs from the start.

The single most consequential one to get right is the Strange Postcards. They are the only collectible category that does not reappear in New Game Plus — the game remembers which ones you already took, and they are simply absent from the world on your second run. Everything else can be swept up later.

The Hardest Trophy

TrophyConditionWhy it is the hardest
Fleeting VisitFinish the game in under 4 hours.Rated the hardest on the list, though the requirement is genuinely lenient — the difficulty is psychological, not mechanical. You must resist exploring.

Two things make this much easier than it sounds. The timer stops while you are in the pause menu, so you can pause freely to check a guide. And a story-only run — doing only mandatory key items and puzzles — takes under 2 hours, while a run collecting all documents takes under 3. If you are doing the second playthrough anyway, you have room to spare.

Field Note — difficulty is irrelevant to trophies

You can do everything on the lowest difficulty ("Story Mode") with the lowest puzzle setting ("Hinted") and still earn every trophy. Hinted difficulty does not change the puzzles themselves — it just adds explanatory text to clues, which is exactly what you want if you are following a guide. There is no trophy for completing the game on a higher difficulty.

Cumulative Trophies Carry Between Runs

This is the most useful mechanic in the trophy list and it is easy to miss: a substantial set of combat and stealth trophies are cumulative across playthroughs. Partial progress on run one is not lost on run two.

The counters known to behave this way include enemy distractions with radios, enemy distractions with thrown bottles, and other combat and stealth achievements. Because they accumulate, the right strategy is to chip away at them from the first hour of your first run rather than planning a dedicated grinding session.

Warning — check the condition, not the intent

A specific example worth knowing: there is a trophy for distracting enemies with thrown bottles, and the counter appears to count bottles only. Bricks can be thrown and distract enemies just as effectively, but they do not appear to advance that counter. Similarly, turning on world radios and setting off car alarms are separate counters from thrown objects. Throw bottles when the trophy is what you are chasing.

Two details that cause unnecessary work. First, Sweeping Signals specifically requires tuning to the channels that display videos during gameplay — it does not require the channels that let you track enemies. Second, Cold Calling requires actually calling each number, not merely having it in your discovered list; numbers generally have to be called at the point they become available and as the character who learns them.

The endings guide covers the requirements in full, including the exact coin and book locations for the two NG+ endings and the two-playthrough route that delivers all five.

One interaction worth flagging: the Sci-fi ending skips the final boss, so taking that ending does not award the boss-defeat trophy on that playthrough. Collect it on one of the branches where you actually fight him.

Common Questions

Do I need a third playthrough for the platinum?

No, if you use the two manual saves. Two full playthroughs plus reloads covers all five endings, the speedrun, and the no-manual-save condition. A third run is only a convenience if you would rather not combine those conditions into the second NG+ run.

Can I get the platinum on Story Mode?

Yes. Difficulty does not affect any trophy, and no trophy requires a higher difficulty setting. Hinted puzzle difficulty only adds explanatory text to clues, which does not change any puzzle solution.

What carries into New Game Plus?

Cumulative trophy progress, Strange Postcards you have already collected (they do not reappear in the world), and progress toward the collectible categories tracked between playthroughs. What does not carry is weapons — you re-collect everything, including the axe and firearms. Clues and Documents reset, because they are what the ending calculation reads each run.

I finished and got the ending I did not want. Did I do something wrong?

Almost certainly not. The three main endings are decided purely by the Discoveries-to-kills comparison, and a casually played first run tends to accumulate kills fast enough to land on Abandoned. Reload your Part 4 save and adjust the balance rather than starting a new run.

Are any trophies glitched?

None have been reported as glitched. The failures people encounter are almost always one of the two silent ones: healing as Zoe, or manually saving after the first required save on a no-save run.
